Our relationship with money is shaped by many factors. Some of these factors include how we saw our family deal with money. Our cultural view of money and our personal experience with money. For some of us we may have had a positive relationship and for others it may have been negative. In order to heal our relationship with money we need to take a look at what that relationship is.
Write Down Your Thoughts
The first step in healing your relationship with money to know how you view money. Take a moment and sit with yourself and think about money and finances. What are the thoughts that come up? Do you feel anxious or nervous? Does thinking about money make you stressed? Do you believe that you will never have enough money? Or do you believe that debt is just a part of life and that you will always have to struggle? Write down any specific circumstances that helped form your relationship with money. What was going on in your life at that time?
Changing your Mindset
The next step is to do some reflections. To establish a positive relationship with money you will need to do some work. After you have assessed how this relationship formed you will need to counter that. Instead of consuming material that states that money is scare or in lack read things that give a more positive outlook on money. Read books or blogs that talk about money in a good light. Listen to podcasts or programs that show you how to manage your money. Work to create new circumstances that showcase your new money mindset.
Changing your relationship with money is a process. But, if you want to achieve your financial goals you will need to learn and change any negative thoughts you have about money.
